Live auditions will be held on May 17-18, July 12 & 19 at the Lubbock Symphony Office (601 Ave K, Lubbock, TX 79401).

Audition requirements

Prelude String Orchestra:

  • Students must have a minimum of 1 year of experience playing their instrument. Students must have a strong ability to read music and be attentive during rehearsals.

  • 2 major scales of choice (2-octaves).

  • Violin students who wish to be considered for the 1st Violin Section may prepare a D Major scale or another key that requires shifting.

  • Short excerpt (Approx. 2 min) from a solo piece that best reflects the highest skill level (A solo from Suzuki Book 1, 2 or 3 would be acceptable).

Philharmonic Orchestra:

The audition will include required scales for each instrument and a solo excerpt of the student’s choosing (1 minute max). Click on the instrument below to view the audition requirements:

Symphony Orchestra:

  • The audition will include required scales for each instrument and a Class One UIL solo excerpt (2 minute max).

  • String, Woodwind, & Brass students should be prepared to sight read a short excerpt.
