Each Fall, LYO students have the opportunity to compete in the Lubbock Youth Orchestras Concerto Competition. Students play solos with accompaniment from rigorous concertos for a panel of judges who score their performance.

The winner has the opportunity to perform the full concerto with the LYO Symphony Orchestra at the Spring Concert.

A 3% fee is added for payments by card. You may avoid the fee by paying by check or cash.

Students must email copy of their solo and accompaniment part, as well as a link to the orchestral accompaniment, sent to alejos.anaya@lubbockisd.organd lyoorchestramanager@lubbocksymphony.orgon or by Sept. 30, 2026. If the piece is approved, you will be contacted via email with more information.
Students are highly encouraged to memorize their piece.
Students are responsible for providing FIVE copies of an appropriate score to be delivered when they arrive at the contest site on November 7th, 2026.
Students are responsible for providing their own instrument (unless piano or percussion).
Students must be in good standing with no more than 2 absences and have tuition paid or a payment plan in place.
Failure to fulfill all requirements may result in disqualification from the Concerto Competition.
If a student is selected for the second round of the competition, they will owe another $15 fee.
Students submitting incomplete or late audition forms will not be permitted to compete.
